SSANU 2026 NATIONAL WOMEN CONFERENCE
Theme: “Healthy Women, Strong Union: Positioning SSANU Women for Leadership and National Relevance”
The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) is set to hold its 2026 National Women Conference on Tuesday, 27th October 2026, at the Prof. Idris Abdulkadir Auditorium, National Universities Commission (NUC), Abuja, beginning at 10:00 AM prompt.
The conference, organised under the leadership of Comrade M. H. Ibrahim, National President of SSANU, in collaboration with Comrade Ijeoma Basil Kalu, National Women Coordinator, represents another significant step towards strengthening women's participation, representation and leadership within the trade union movement and the Nigerian university system.
With the theme “Healthy Women, Strong Union: Positioning SSANU Women for Leadership and National Relevance,” the conference seeks to highlight the vital relationship between women's health, personal development, effective leadership and the collective strength of trade unions.
The gathering will provide an important platform for SSANU women from universities across Nigeria to engage in meaningful discussions on health and well-being, leadership development, gender inclusion, professional advancement and the challenges confronting women in the workplace and society.
Beyond promoting women's welfare, the conference will emphasise the importance of empowering women to take up greater leadership responsibilities, participate actively in union decision-making and contribute meaningfully to national development.
The event also comes at a significant period in SSANU's history, following the signing of the landmark 2026 Federal Government/SSANU Agreement, which reflects the union's continued commitment to improved conditions of service, workers' welfare and institutional progress.
The conference is expected to strengthen solidarity among female members, encourage mentorship, inspire emerging women leaders and reinforce the indispensable role of women in building a stronger, more inclusive and progressive SSANU.
